Ingredients
INGREDIENTS
4 cups canned navy beans, rinsed and drained (or about 2 cans)
8 slices of bacon, chopped
1 medium onion, finely diced
1 cup Lost Trail Root Beer
1/2 cup ketchup
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional, for a smoky flavor)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Cook the Bacon: In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon and set it aside, leaving about 1-2 tablespoons of bacon drippings in the pan.
Sauté the Onion: Add the diced onion to the bacon drippings in the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the Lost Trail Root Beer, ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and smoked paprika. Stir until everything is well mixed.
Assemble: In a large baking dish, combine the navy beans, cooked onions, and bacon. Pour the root beer mixture over the top and stir to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes, until the sauce has thickened slightly.
Serve: Let the beans cool for a few minutes before serving, allowing the flavors to settle.

Oh, this sounds like a great twist for the Thanksgiving table! I'm always looking for ways to jazz up the usual sides, and using root beer for a sweet and smoky depth is such an interesting idea. It's simple enough that you could easily double it for a crowd too. Now I'm curious about what else you could add to it—might have to discover more variations online to really make it my own. Has anyone here tried something similar with a different soda, like Dr Pepper?
Root beer in baked beans?! I was skeptical at first, but the result was amazing! It was unique and flavorful, like comfort food with a new Among Us twist. I tried it and my whole family loved it.
